Recruitment, coaching and consultancy for business leaders and strategists globally.

At Rare Bird, we believe brilliance in strategy isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s unique. It’s personal. It’s the magic that happens when the right strategist meets the right environment. And yet, too often, businesses and strategists struggle to define what brilliance means for them—let alone find it, nurture it, and let it shine. That’s where we come in.

We partner with leaders within businesses and organisations to help:1. Define your unique version of strategic brillianceStrategy is a slippery word—everyone thinks they know what it means, but definitions vary wildly. We help businesses cut through the ambiguity and articulate what ‘great strategy’ looks like in their specific context. Whether you’re after brave visionaries, rigorous thinkers, creative connectors, or something else entirely, we help you put your version of strategic brilliance into words. We also unearth how that strategic brilliance delivers within the ecosystem of your organisation. How it operates within the culture of your business, with the personalities in the business, and from the foundations of your values and beliefs as a business. How it serves or shapes the processes and methodologies of your business. And, ultimately, how it helps you get to brilliant work and achieve your vision.2. Discover the strategists who align with that brillianceFinding ‘the best’ strategist is meaningless unless you know what ‘best’ looks like for you. We don’t just send you impressive CVs; we find the person whose skills, instincts, and ways of thinking fit your version of strategy. Because when there’s alignment, brilliance happens.3. Cultivate the conditions for strategic brilliance to shineThe right strategist in the wrong environment is like a firework under a bucket. Too often, strategists are hired for their thinking but then stifled by process, culture, or leadership that doesn’t quite know what to do with them. We help teams create an environment where strategists can thrive—through coaching, leadership alignment, and embedding the right ways of working.

Why Rare Bird?Because we see strategy differently.Recruiters will tell you they ‘get strategy.’ We actually do. With decades in the industry, we know how wildly the definition of strategy varies—and we embrace that. Our approach is deeply human: we listen, we challenge, we cut through the noise, and we don’t do bullshit.
Whether you’re a business looking to build a stronger strategy function or a strategist trying to find your place in the world, Rare Bird is here to help you unlock brilliance.
Let’s make it happen.

We partner with strategists to:1. Discover what makes you uniquely brilliant at strategyMost strategists didn’t follow a straight path into strategy. And yet, everything you’ve done—every odd job, every left turn, every time you felt like an outsider—has given you the perspective that makes you great at what you do. We help you see that clearly and own it with confidence.2. Define your unique version of strategic brillianceStrategy isn’t about jargon or frameworks; it’s about moving people. So how do you move people? What’s the thinking, the perspective, the way you see the world that makes you different? We help you articulate that in a way that makes sense to employers, clients, and most importantly—to yourself.3. Harness and unlock that brillianceKnowing your brilliance is one thing. Putting it to work is another. Whether you’re looking for the right role, refining your leadership style, or trying to navigate an industry that wasn’t built for the way you think, we help you create the conditions for your own brilliance to shine.

Susie TaylorI draw on my 17 years’ agency experience to provide a consultative approach to both client and candidate. First I look to understand the agency’s vision, aligning that vision with the future aspirations and long-term career goals of my candidates. I then look at the more specific client requirements and how the candidate might address those. My approach as a head hunter is very much informed by my 12 years’ new business experience. I provided strategic new business services to over 40 agencies across all disciplines including: digital marketing; integrated and direct marketing; advertising; research and innovation; brand and design consultancy and PR consultancy.
My experience of helping those agencies define their propositions proved to me that the primary way agencies truly differentiate themselves is through their talent – hence I help agencies achieve their objectives through employing the right kind of talent.
I now advise the industry’s best digital and integrated planners and strategists on their most rewarding career paths; help them find the best possible roles; and ultimately help them achieve their long-term goals.

Chris ReaI spent the first decade of my working life as a planner and then as a brand consultant. I was lucky enough to work globally, and on everything from big advertising ideas to far-fetched product ideas. As a strategist my goal was always to find the solutions that made a real difference for the people they were aimed at.My approach to head hunting is based on similar principles to those I used to apply as a straegist. I aim to dig deeper and understand what individuals or businesses need, not just what they say they want. I aim to look beyond the obvious, to explore how different solutions can deliver beyond expectations. I take a more holistic view of what success is, and the steps that can deliver real success.Any great creative business is defined and driven by its people. Today I work with clients and candidates to create those connections that open up new and exciting opportunities for both.
